Ayala Land Launches Major Green Push with BERDE Certification Drive for Key Estates
June 20, 2025
Makati City, Philippines — In a milestone for sustainable development in the country, Ayala Land Estates, Inc. (ALEI) has launched an ambitious BERDE District Certification Drive for its leading estates—including Nuvali, Parklinks, and Arca South—reinforcing Ayala Land’s position as a national pioneer in climate-resilient real estate.
The BERDE (Building for Ecologically Responsive Design Excellence) certification is the country’s premier green building rating system, developed by the Philippine Green Building Council (PHILGBC). Ayala Land Estates is now aiming to secure BERDE District certification for six flagship estates and one emerging township, making it the most extensive estate-level green certification effort in the Philippines to date.
The initiative underscores Ayala Land’s commitment to sustainable urbanism at scale and reflects the increasing integration of ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) criteria into the core operations of leading Philippine developers.
The May 22 launch event brought together senior leadership from Ayala Land, PHILGBC, and key estate operations units. The signing of a collective commitment board signaled a unified push to meet and exceed BERDE criteria across multiple fronts: water and energy efficiency, waste reduction, climate resilience, and urban connectivity.
The goal of obtaining a BERDE certificate is to ensure that a development meets high standards of environmental sustainability, energy efficiency, and overall performance. It provides third-party validation that a project is planned, built, and operated in a way that supports long-term ecological and social well-being, helping raise the bar for responsible urban development in the Philippines.
Among the first to undergo certification is Nuvali, Ayala Land’s sprawling eco-estate in Laguna that integrates residential, commercial, and recreational areas.
ALEI’s certification drive supports Ayala Land’s broader sustainability goals: decarbonization, site resilience, resource efficiency, connectivity and inclusive growth—principles now deeply embedded in the firm’s investment and development strategy. With Ayala Land’s over 53 estates nationwide and a reputation for pioneering mixed-use communities like Makati CBD and BGC, this move sets a new precedent for how large-scale urban planning can address the climate imperative.
